To All St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church Website Visitors:
Welcome to the newest parish in the Diocese of Des Moines! Bishop Richard Pates announced the founding of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, School and Senior Housing to begin in the western part of Ankeny on December 17, 2010. (See the Link at saintluketheevangelist.org for the announcement) The Catholic community has blossomed in the Ankeny area in the past several years. Some time ago, a study was undertaken by Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart parish to ask about how to meet the needs of this growing faith community. The recommendation was that a new parish be considered in the near future.
As part of the Centennial of the Diocese of Des Moines, Bishop Pates made this new parish, school and senior housing one of his goals for this Centennial year. At the same time that he announced the founding of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, he also appointed me, Fr. Larry Hoffmann as its first pastor effective January 1, 2011.
It is with a lot of excitement and trepidation, that I am beginning the process of gathering the faith community that will become St. Luke’s parish community. Everything has to be done including the registration of parishioners, a place to have mass on weekends, a parish office and meeting area, even a place for me to live. I am temporarily based with Fr. Steve at the OLIH rectory and use the basement as an office. Early on we will need volunteers to form a liturgy committee to plan quality and joyful music. We will need help with music as well as set up and take down for masses in a rented space to be determined.
You might be wondering if you live within the boundaries of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Parish. You can find the boundaries of this parish to the right of this article. If you would like to join this new parish community, watch here for an on-line registration form that you can complete and return.
I am looking forward to meeting all of you and urge you to consider being part of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic parish. I hope to have gatherings and weekly home masses in the very near future so people can gather to visit about what our hopes and dreams can become as we begin this exciting journey together. Thank you for taking time to visit about St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic parish and the excitement of this new adventure.
