Dear St. Luke’s Parishioners,
Here I am writing the bulletin letter well in advance of the Labor Day weekend. I thought that I could give a little catch up of what has been happening.
On Monday, August 15, the Organizing Committee had its regular meeting at St. Anne’s. We reviewed the activities from the two previous weeks.
Discussion of the brochure to hand out at the Ministry Fair and the committee’s table was held. We also talked about the Parish Questionnaire that will be sent out and my cover letter. It will go out late August. Please send in your comments and thoughts.
August 16—17, I was with the priests of the Diocese at the Creighton Retreat Center at Griswold for the next sessions of the Good Leaders, Good Shepherds Institute. We were focusing on the formation of parish teams. Their suggestions and methods will be very helpful to put together teams with clear direction.
That Thursday evening, the Finance Committee met for their regular meeting. Financial support from all of you continues to be very strong. We are able to meet our obligations and to build our reserves. New salaries for our part time employees and additional rent due to the move to Northview Middle School was discussed as well.
On Friday, I had an opportunity to tour Northview Middle School and in particular the Auditorium we will use for Mass and the class rooms we will use for K—8 Religious Education. It should be a good place for our Mass, coffee and donuts and classes. There should be space for our Adult Faith sessions as well. Later that day, I met with the monthly Tribunal session at the Catholic Pastoral Center.
On Saturday morning, after celebrating Reconciliation from 9—10 am, we had our 2nd Baptism Preparation session. If any of you soon to be parents will need to attend one of these sessions, please let me know.
And speaking of Baptisms, on 8/21, we baptized Grace Manley, daughter of Eric and Rachel, and welcomed her as the newest member of St. Luke’s parish. After Mass, we had St. Luke’s first Ministry Fair. Our committees, organizations and groups had tables and information in the hallway. It was a great way to showcase what is currently happening at St. Luke’s. Thank you to the Stewardship Committee for coordinating this fair and for all those who put together their tables and information.
Monday, I gathered at Lake Rathbun for our monthly priests support group. Fr. Joe McDonnell hosted us at his family lake home.
If you have not yet registered for our Sunday 9/18 Religious Education classes, please do so ASAP. May you all be blessed these beginning fall days.
Fr. Larry Hoffmann
