Father Larry's Letters

"Father Larry's Letters" are a weekly letter/journal about the many events occurring within and around the St. Luke's community.

Chatting with Cindy

Dear St. Luke’s Parishioners,

While Father Larry is away (trying to find snow), Cindy Clefisch is filling in for him.

Ah … the holidays are over and I have so many fond memories! For our last day of RE class, the 1st graders performed a wonderful nativity play. Then at Christmas Eve, our 3rd and 4th graders got the honor of acting out the nativity story. What fun! It is also thought-provoking to remember that Mary was not much older than they are. Biblical scholars estimate that she was most likely 12 or 13 years old. And then there were the Christmas carols!! Music is the #1 thing that gets me into the holiday spirit. Kudos to those of you who kept your nativity scenes up through the whole Liturgical season of Christmas, through the feast of the Epiphany.

Speaking of the Epiphany, I was so excited about the Family Epiphany Fair! It’s been the “special project” that I’ve been working on since October. I wanted to do something similar to OLIH’s Advent Fair and the KC’s St. Nicholas party (by the way, no fair, two themes are taken up in one afternoon). That left me with the Holy Family or the Epiphany to celebrate. Personally, I have learned SO much as I have prepared materials. I’ll take a look at the feedback and discuss the event with the RE team before we plan for next year. Thank you to all of those who came and to those who volunteered their time and talents to lend a helping hand. I think everyone there will pay more attention to the “12 Days of Christmas” song next year.

We are excited about planning for the faith formation of 2012. This week RE classes resume. Last Monday, the Bible Timeline’s 20 participants started their journey. On January 24, 31, and Feb. 7, Father Larry will lead the series of “Catholicism 101.” Some of our older and wiser folks claim that “these young folks just don’t know about their Catholic faith.” Is it true? Whether you daydreamed away CCD classes, stared at the cute boy in the back row during religion class, don’t remember, or just plain want to know more, sign up today! Are you an expert? Perfect! Join us and share your wisdom with us! You may sign up by emailing faithformation@saintluketheevangelist.org.

Blessings to you and yours during 2012 and good luck keeping those New Year’s resolutions!

Peace,
Cindy Clefisch
