Dear St. Luke’s Parishioners,
Sunday evening the 14th saw a good gathering of 50+ parishioners out at our building site for our “First Annual St. Luke’s Bonfire.” We had a beautiful evening with just enough chill in the air to appreciate the two fire pits. Lots of s’mores were made and enjoyed. It was great to be up on the top of our hill looking around and imagining where our 1st facilities will be. Maybe we can do it next year again!
Tuesday evening, October 15, I enjoyed the dinner prepared by the DMACC Culinary Arts class at their Bistro. It was a nice fall menu and presentation. After dinner, the St. Luke’s School committee met for its regular meeting. Ideas for marketing the school and preparations for establishing the St. Luke’s School Board were discussed.
On Wednesday, October 16, I met with the Architects/Contractors for their weekly morning meeting. For lunch, I joined those who support Mosaic for their fund raiser luncheon. I enjoyed visiting RE classes where they discussed and drew ideas for what the interior of our church could be. That evening the Strategic Planning Team met at the Rectory. The Architect/Contractors presented their floor plans with cost estimates that fit within our budget. We set the date, October 27, 2:00 pm at Ashland Ridge Cafeteria to hold a Town Hall meeting to present and explain these plans and images.
Thursday evening after Adoration, the Finance Council met for its monthly meeting. Monthly Financial Statements and the current Financial Activities were reviewed. Projections for the Capital Campaign pledge payments were reviewed. A letter to be used for a “Request for Proposal” to borrow from local banks for our 1st Phase was discusses and updated. Other documents that will be needed are also being finalized.
On Friday, I met with my Priests’ Support Group at Christ the King Rectory. It is always good to be able to share facts of ministry and life priests in our group.
Saturday evening, I enjoyed going to the wedding reception for Joe and Diane Iaria that was held in Altoona. Their wedding was last April. It was a great celebration of their new life as a married couple with their many family members and friends.
Our Saturday and Sunday, Respect Life focus was on children lost too young to miscarriage and infant death. May we always grow in appreciation of God’s gift of all life. RE middle school students presented their project of making “Knot Tied Rosaries” that were blessed at both Masses and made available to folks. They did great work with their project.
As I work on this letter, I am anticipating a great celebration at our St. Luke the Evangelist Feast Day Pasta Dinner and Silent Auction on October 20 at OLIH. Lots of great food and nice baskets are prepared. I will have more detail about how everything went next week.
We are in the process of establishing a St. Luke’s School Board. We will need to look for a principal for our school that we plan on opening in August of 2015. The principal will begin work July 1, 2014 - planning on curriculum, staff, educational spaces, talking to lots of interested parents. If you may be interested in this School Board, come to a meeting on November 3, 4 - 6:00 pm where information about what board responsibilities and requirements would be will be presented. We will also give pointers about discerning whether to agree to run for school board election November 23-24. Let us know at the office so we can get information to you.
As we approach the end of the month - Halloween and the feast of All Saints and All Souls, let us ask the saints of our own families to pray for each of us. We need to continue the journey of life and faith they have completed.
