Father Larry's Letters

"Father Larry's Letters" are a weekly letter/journal about the many events occurring within and around the St. Luke's community.

A Plea From Cindy

Dear St. Luke’s Parishioners,

It’s the time of year where Directors of Religious Education can be found spending extra time on their knees and in front of the Blessed Sacrament. No one meets their eyes as they wait with a smile for adults to volunteer to teach our precious children. That’s right!!! It’s time for Religious Education Registration and Catechist Sign up. Not surprisingly, all of the Kindergarten catechist spots are taken. Most surprisingly, so are the spots for Confirmation Catechists!

I am so excited about the upcoming year! We will start off with an open house, like last year. This year our theme will be “If I grew up in Nazareth.” In October, we will study the rosary and the saints. In November, everyone will be learning about looking up references in the Bible and the Catechism. December brings Advent, with a special emphasis on the Jesse Tree, and Christmas. January will include a lesson about the liturgical calendar. We start our season of Lent in February, do our Holy Week lesson in March, and celebrate Easter in April. Before the end of the year, we will again be doing Marian lessons.

Religious Education will again be offered on Wednesdays at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church. At 4:00 pm, we will offer classes for KDG-3rd grade. Classes for KDG-5th grade will be offered at 6:00 pm. Classes for 6th-12th graders will be from 7:15-8:30 pm. This year, Kindergarten classes will be offered every week. Next year we will be able to meet in our own space!!!

Watch for Instructions for on-line RE registration. If you’ve already logged into “My Own Church,” most of your work for RE registration has already been done (registering for My Own Church is a prerequisite to registering for religious education classes). Contact Jenifer at office@saintluketheevangelist.org if you have questions with the registration for My Own Church.

The on-line registration doesn’t allow for on-line payments or volunteer sign up. Signing up to be a catechist for religious education waives your religious education registration fees. If you would like to be a catechist, please email Cindy Clefisch @ faithformation@saintluketheevangelist.org with your grade and time preference. Besides catechists, we need substitute catechists, baby-sitters to help at our 4:00 pm time slot, help making copies and preparing supplies, and assistance setting up each Wednesday morning at 9:15 am. Signing up for any of these other roles gives you ½ off the registration fees.

This year, the Religious Education fees will be $75/child, with a maximum amount of $150/family. There will be an additional $10 Sacrament fee for those in 2nd and 10th grade. The sacrament fee applies for each child, even if a parent has volunteered to help with the program. Please make out a check to "St. Luke the Evangelist" and mail it in, drop it by the office, or put it in the collection basket with “RE payment” marked in the memo.

Please let us know if you have any issues with registration by contacting the office at 964-1278 or by emailing office@saintluketheevangelist.org.
