Dear St. Luke’s Parishioners,
Iowa is being Iowa again this last week. From 100+ heat index and stifling humidity, to not even 80 degrees with a gentle north wind, we were again blessed this last week.
On Tuesday, we had the 1st Staff meeting since last June. We are beginning to get schedules for the coming fall season in place. The many activities of St. Luke’s are about to get underway again. You can register for St. Luke’s Religious Education by using our website. St. Luke’s School still has openings for classes beginning August 25. Call the parish office if you need information.
Later that day, I had the privilege of holding Harrison James, newborn son of Margery and Casey Pierce. It was great to bless him and his mother just a day after he was born. Still later that afternoon, I met with Fr. Dan Krettek for my regular spiritual direction.
On Wednesday 8/3, I met with the priest’s group from Shelby County for lunch and playing cards at Greenfield. That evening, I went to the Catholic Youth Camp to help with confessions with the senior campers.
Thursday morning, I met with the family of Dennis Michel to plan his funeral that was to be held at St. Luke’s. Keep his wife Melissa and their children in your prayers. That evening, the Liturgy Committee held its regular meeting. We reviewed and planned our efforts to schedule added Liturgical Ministers for the two Sunday morning masses that will begin this fall. We encourage parishioners to become lectors, servers, hospitality ministers, Eucharistic Ministers and commentators so that we can have enough people to serve at these masses. Please volunteer by calling the parish office.
Friday after the morning mass, I also went down to Vintage Hills for the 1st Friday mass for the residents there. At noon, I met for the regular Tribunal panel at the Catholic Pastoral Center. From 3:00 pm that afternoon to late in the evening, St. Luke’s hosted the funeral visitation for Dennis Michel and Jacob Seeman. Thank you to all who came to offer your condolences. Thank you as well to those who helped with hospitality.
On Saturday, we celebrated the funeral for Dennis Michel at 10:00 am. It was a time of prayer and remembering God’s plan for each one to be brought to the dwelling place prepared for them in the Father’s house. We remembered that Jesus is the way, the truth and the Life. Thank you to all who were present to help with hospitality and the Liturgical ministries.
That same morning, parents of St. Luke School students came to help give our school classrooms and hall a thorough cleaning. Thank you for the many hands that made this a light task.
The numbers of you who have signed up to have your family picture taken for our Pictorial Directory are growing. I would really like to have 100 % of our families in our new book. Please take a moment, go to our website saintluketheevangelist.org and find a time that is good for you August 16-20 and August 22-24.
Make plans to come to our Ministry Fair that will be held in our Gym after masses August 20-21. I have heard that there will be Pizza after the Saturday evening mass and of course donuts after the Sunday mass. Come and learn more about the many things going on in St. Luke’s.
Enjoy the blessings of these beautiful August days.
