Dear St. Luke’s Parishioners
I am writing this letter on Wednesday of Holy Week. We have survived the cold, windy and wet of the last several days. Snow had to be sooo close to us but I am glad it not come. Now I am hoping for the warm sun to begin its steady return.
Last Wednesday, the Organizing Committee met again. We reviewed the Finances - $6,127 in deposits; $4,355 in bills paid; $1,392 in outstanding bills leaving a $10,680 balance. I am so glad that we are able to pay our bills.
Lots of parishioners are donating time and items for our weekend celebrations including: Altar and Ambo; Keyboard, bench and music stands, new mass vessels; rebuilding of storage cabinets; beautiful environment items and touches and so much more. It is a delight to see what will enhance our Liturgy this week!
Thursday I spent the afternoon and evening at St. Ambrose for the 2nd Annual Priests Day of Reflection before the Chrism Mass. At that mass, the priests renew their priestly commitment vows and the bishop blesses the Oil of Chrism, the Oil of Catechumens and the Oil of the Sick. St. Luke’s now has its own oils for sacramental use throughout the year.
On Friday, I was host for my monthly priests’ support group. We have used the Jesus Caritas method of sharing our lives and supporting each other for about 35 years. Following our meeting, we had the Stations of the Cross at St. Anne’s. Following the stations, we had our 1st SCRIP meeting. SCRIP is a way to use Gift Cards and Certificates and get a rebate from businesses in the community. It is a great way to generate funds without cost over and above what you would spend anyway. More will be coming about this possibility.
Saturday after 9:00 am Reconciliation at St. Anne’s, I secured my Income Tax papers for the state and federal government. I managed to get them to the Post Office on the required Monday. On Sunday the Palm Sunday celebration was highlighted by the procession with blessed palms and Red vestments and environment. The reading of the Passion set the stage for Holy Week. Later that afternoon, we had our 1st Stewardship Committee meeting. We will be studying what a “Stewardship Way of Life” can mean for St. Luke’s.
I am preparing for our Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Thursday and the Good Friday Services both to have been held at 7:00 pm at Ashland Ridge as well as the joy of Resurrection at Easter. The focus we can truly have after 40 days of Lent is one of rejoicing at the New Life that Jesus knows after crucifixion. That New Life is shared with all of us who will believe that death and sin have been conquered by the Christ who has risen.
Thank you to all who have helped to make our Holy Week and Easter celebrations a real delight. May all of you be blessed as you gather with family and friends to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus this Easter Sunday.
Peace, Fr. Larry
