Dear St. Luke’s Parishioners,
I have heard a couple of mothers share how their children are getting on each others nerves these days. They are thinking sometimes out loud it will be so good when school begins 8/15!
Last Monday I convinced myself that I really should get back on the bike and rode the bike trail up to Sheldahl. It was good to get back in the mood. That afternoon, I joined a regular group of Shelby County priests in our evening of playing cards and sharing dinner hosted by Fr. Ken Gross at St. John’s in Greenfield. I almost won one of the pitch games!
Tuesday morning I met with a phone installer to arrange a land line at our parish office. As of Friday, St. Luke’s has an office number, it is: 964-1278. We have an answering machine so you can leave messages. On Wednesday, I visited the hospitals.
On Thursday I had lunch with Fr. Bob Kem from St. Anne’s and his son Andrew home from school in Denver with his wife Kim and son Miles. Andrew even helped reconfigure my computer! After the 5:30 pm Mass I helped Kyle and Sarah Conway renew their wedding vows for their 5th Anniversary of Marriage. Their infant son slept through everything!
That evening the Faith Formation Committee had their regular meeting. They talked briefly about the progress for St. Luke’s in our joint effort with OLIH in the RCIA for the coming year. Various Adult Faith Formation opportunities are being investigated. It is likely that a scripture study of the gospel of Luke using the Little Rock Scripture Study materials will be held on Sunday Mornings during the K—8 classes. More information later. Two catechists for each grade have volunteered to begin on September 18th for our first Religious Education session at St. Luke’s from 10:20-11:20 am.
If you have not yet registered for our Sunday morning sessions, you can find the forms online or at the table after mass.
On Friday and Saturday I asked two groups of parishioners to help me interview candidates for the Part Time Administrative Assistant/Bookkeeper and Part time Faith Formation Coordinator. We had several letters of application and selected several to interview. The panel of parishioners recommended one for each position and I have offered them the jobs. I want to thank the interviewers and all those who sent in letters of interest with their resumes.
Saturday evening we had another mass at Deb and Steve Syverson’s home. It is a wonderful way to gather friends and neighbors to celebrate our faith like they did in the early church. Let me know if you would like to have a mass at your home.
