Dear St. Luke’s Parishioners,
God is blessing us with wonderful May sunshine and beautiful evenings to sleep with windows open. Thank you God!
Monday, May 7, I attended the Knights of Columbus monthly meeting. They held the 1st degree for 4 new members. If you are interested in the Knights of Columbus, just let me know and I can get you in touch with the Grand Knight.
Tuesday evening, Cindy Clefisch welcomed Wendy Solawetz, the Diocesan Respect Life Contact person, to St. Anne’s. We had a nice discussion with a small group about Respect Life issues and how we can be involved in them.
On Wednesday, I met with Van Griffith from AMOS, A Mid-Iowa Organizing Strategy. Van is new with AMOS and was visiting area pastors. AMOS is an ecumenical effort to work on agreed upon justice issues that arise from House neighborhood meetings.
Later that day, I met with two different families to help plan two funerals for Friday and Saturday. That evening, the Strategic Planning Team met at St. Anne’s. Our guests were Sr. Jude Fitzpatrick and Norm Bormann from the Diocese. We shared the progress we have made. They invited us to the next Diocesan Building Commission on May 21. Lists of questions and answers, letters, documents and possible surveys will be presented. After that meeting, a report to the parish will be made as well.
Thursday, I was part of a Spring Study Day for the Priests at Stuart. The speaker was Dr. Peter Kleponis and his topic was “Fighting Porn in Our Culture and Winning!” It was an excellent presentation. That evening, the St. Luke’s Parish Pastoral Council met at St. Anne’s. The biggest part of our agenda was to deal with the parish responses concerning the possible move to Ashland Ridge for our Sunday morning Masses. The overwhelming response from the parish favored the move. We spent time discussing the concerns raised about the move and will respond to those concerns. We are waiting for confirmation from Ankeny Community Schools for this June 3 move to Ashland Ridge. Announcements will be made as soon as possible.
Plans are being made by the Parish Council for our June Parish Picnic at North Creek Park. More information will come as soon as the date is confirmed.
Friday morning. I had a funeral at OLIH and Saturday morning another at St. Theresa’s. May the Lord bless all our beloved departed loved ones. At the Saturday evening Mass, we celebrated the baptism of Hadley Runkel, daughter of Ted and Lisa. Welcome to Hadley, our newest member of St. Luke’s.
That Saturday evening, I attended open houses for Marcus Varnum and Andrew Goetz. Congratulations to all our graduates. May the Holy Spirit guide you in your next steps in life.
Sunday after Mass, I went home to Panama and spent the day with my mother and my siblings. It was great to enjoy the beautiful day and to share memories and plans for our coming family vacation in June. Be blessed in God’s gift of wonderful May days.
