Dear St. Luke’s Parishioners,
The blessings of God of warm weather and low humidity continue. Now we ask God for the gift of timely rain. May our God continue to bless us, His children, with all that we need.
Last Monday, I enjoyed the St. Vincent de Paul Golf Outing and dinner with Frs. Ken Gross, Chris Hartshorn and Bob Hoefler. It was a perfect day and we even played well - 3 under par! The dinner was great as well.
On Tuesday, I had an opportunity to attend “Rain” at the Civic Center. It was a group that presented the Beatles music through the years. The place was packed with baby boomer aged folks like me. It was very well done. Thanks to St. Luke’s parishioners for the tickets while they were in Italy.
Wednesday, I celebrated the Mill Pond Mass at 9:30 am for Fr. Steve. It was good to celebrate with the residents and those who came with them for the Mass. That early evening, the Strategic Planning Team gathered to prepare for the presentation we would be making to the Diocesan Building Commission on Monday, May 21. The Commission has requested that we give them an update of our progress so far. We will be presenting that same information to the parish as well as soon as possible. Later that evening, I was the pastor that welcomed folks to the Ankeny High School Baccalaureate “Senior Blessing” at OLIH. It is great to have the opportunity to bless our young people as they set out in their next steps in life.
On Thursday evening, the Finance Council met at St. Anne’s. We reviewed the April financial statements. The first draft of the budget for the coming fiscal year was discussed. After some refinements, it will be presented to the Parish Pastoral Council and then to the whole parish. I am encouraged by your continuing financial support of St. Luke’s. I invite you to consider using Automatic Withdrawal from your bank account for your financial support. A very good number of you already do so and it is very helpful.
Friday afternoon, I met with Mike Peters from KWKY radio1150 to talk about St. Luke’s being in the parish spotlight on the radio the week of May 27 - June 2. Tune in during the morning 7– 9:30 am and in the rebroadcast from 7– 9:30 pm each week day. Our Pentecost Mass will be broadcast on Sunday, May 27.
Saturday was a great day to attend Graduation parties for Zach Cain and Darby Rourick. Congratulations to all our graduates.
On Sunday, we announced that we will be moving our Sunday morning 9:00 am Mass to Ashland Ridge Elementary School (2600 NW Ash Drive) on Sunday, June 3. We will be able to store our lockers at Ashland Ridge, use the Cafeteria for coffee and rolls and not have to negotiate steps for communion. In the Fall, we will have Religious Education at St. Anne’s on Wednesday evenings.
Consider coming to the Ordination of three of our Transitional Deacons this Friday, June 1, at 7:00 pm at Holy Trinity Church in Des Moines. We look forward to having future Deacon Ross Parker in Ankeny this summer. Keep them all in your prayers.
