Dear St. Luke’s Parishioners,
I am writing this letter on Sunday morning, July 29. Thank God for the wonderful rain that came down about midnight! May the Lord continue to bless us with the needed rain.
Last Monday, I joined a full church and more for the funeral of Deacon David Wadle, father of Kate Ledyard from St. Luke’s. It was a wonderful celebration of his life and a celebration of the new life he now knows in how he comes to eternal life. That evening I joined the St. Luke’s Supper Club for dinner at “The Bristo” on Surefine here in Ankeny. It was a wonderful homemade meal. Consider going there some evening.
Wednesday evening, the Strategic Planning Team met and discussed what we have to do to facilitate the Saturday, August 25, 9:30-11:30 am St. Luke’s Facilities Planning Workshop that will be conducted by our Architect Firm. All adults from St. Luke’s and potential St. Luke’s parishioners are encouraged to attend to share your ideas and dreams. You can register after Mass on the weekend up to August 21 or at the Web Site - hit the “Dreams Go Here” button. Child care will be provided.
On Thursday, I spent some time working on my stained glass project for the Serra Club Art for Vocations Auction to be held on Sunday, August 12, 5:30-7:00 pm. I am working on a Celtic Cross and should have it done very soon.
On Friday, I went out for the second bike ride for the week - maybe in sympathy for the RAGBRAI riders? It is good exercise and I don’t want to lose all the muscle tone I had from hiking in the Colorado mountains. That evening, I had a wedding rehearsal at St. Theresa’s. I had come to know this couple while I was assigned there. The wedding the next day was great - they enjoyed their celebration around their sacrament of Matrimony.
Saturday morning, I gathered with Jim and Pat Brady and their family for their 50th Wedding Anniversary. It was that very day 50 years ago. It was fun to share a blessing and their wonderful lunch.
Thank you for those who volunteered to help with the 5th Grade Religious Education and the 9-12th grades as well. One more catechist for each level would be very helpful. If you can help, please contact Cindy Clefisch at the parish office.
Thank you to those who have agreed to be part of our Recruitment-Welcoming Team and the Social Concerns Team. We will be having our 1st meeting in the next few days. If any are still interested in being part of either of these teams, just let me know.
Note that we will be having our Ministry Fair after the Masses on August 18-19. It is a great time to take a moment and find out what the various Ministries, committees, activities and Teams of St. Luke’s are about. Plan on taking a few minutes after Mass to become more familiar with all that is going on at St. Luke’s.
