Dear St. Luke’s Parishioners,
I have a feeling that Fall is approaching rapidly. Even though the warm days have continued, trees are beginning to change color. Given the early spring, we should not be surprised. The changing colors speak to us of God’s continued creative process within our seasons.
Last Monday, September 10, I attended the monthly KC meeting at OLIH. We are in the midst of talking about a KC Council for St. Luke’s. On Tuesday, I met with area Catholic pastors for lunch. It is a great way to catch up on what is happening in our respective parishes and to support and help each other along the way. Besides, Talley’s has good food!
That evening, the Recruitment-Welcoming Team met and continued the Team Charter development. We also discussed several ways that can assist the work of the Team, including providing materials for the person who visits new comers in Ankeny and Polk City. We also discussed how various social media could be used in the parish. Developing a simple “Talking Points” card about St. Luke’s is likely to be made available for all parishioners. That way, anyone can share with someone who may not know about our parish. All of us together can be part of welcoming and recruiting for St. Luke’s.
Wednesday evening was our 1st week of Religious Education at St. Anne’s. I am impressed with the size of our classes and the quality of our catechists. May the Holy Spirit guide all of you as you help share the faith. Later that evening, the Strategic Planning Team met with our Architects. They shared how they took all our ideas and direction from the Facilities Planning Workshop and put it into square footage and into possible phases.
It kind of makes me take a deep breath to be thinking of phases of our facilities on Weigel Avenue and how that may be coming soon! Do sign up for the October 6, 9:30-11:30 am Site Planning Workshop to be held in the South Classrooms at OLIH - Rooms 14-16. There will be a workshop for children as well. You can sign up after Mass or on the website - use the “Construction Zone” button.
Thursday was my priests support group meeting at Martina Place with Msgr. Joe McDonnell. It was great to see him up and able to meet and pray with us. That evening, the Parish Pastoral Council met. We reviewed the progress of the Recruitment-Welcome and Social Concerns Teams. We reviewed the progress of the Strategic Planning Team and discussed the upcoming October 14 Parish Feast Day and Dinner.
For that dinner, we still need lots of volunteers for the 4:00-7:00 pm Pasta Dinner and Silent Auction. Be sure to sign up after Mass for ways to help. Be sure to buy your advanced tickets as well. It helps us have an idea about how much food to prepare. This dinner is a great way to work together and build St. Luke’s parish community.
Sunday, September 16, there was a meeting to discuss the possibility conforming a Knights of Columbus for St. Luke’s. All the men of our parish are encouraged to consider becoming Knights if they are not already members. Don’t forget to get your pictures taken for the Directory!
