Dear St. Luke’s Parishioners,
As I was driving down to the Christ Our Life Conference closing Mass on Sunday, September 23, I noticed how much the fall color has so quickly begun to appear. The very cool evenings are getting us to find our sweatshirts and who knows, we may even have to get out the jackets!
Last Monday, I spent the evening at OLIH. First I joined the Wise and Wonderful for their pot luck. Then I had a chance to meet with the RCIA session to talk about The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. That was a great session. As soon as my part was finished, I had an opportunity to visit with the OLIH Pastoral Council to give them an update on St. Luke’s. They were very gracious and would do anything they could to help our community grow.
On Tuesday, I joined the St. Luke’s Supper Club at Buffalo Wild Wings. There was a nice group that enjoyed the food and the evening together. And speaking of enjoying things, on Wednesday, a friend invited me to a round of Golf at Echo Valley. As per usual, I hit some good shots and then the others. I did have one birdie on one of the Ridge holes and a par or two - and lots of shots we will not mention - especially near water!
On Thursday, I celebrated the funeral for Beverly Henrich, wife of William from Ankeny. Keep her family in your prayers. That evening, the Finance Council met for its regular meeting. We reviewed the year end questionnaire from the diocese and have it ready to sign. We looked at the month’s financials. We spoke about questions of financing the 1st Phase of our facilities when that time will come.
Friday afternoon, I met with members of the St. Anthony’s Mother’s Club - a group that began 50 years ago at St. Anthony’s and have met continuously since then. It was a nice gathering of memories from my days with them. That evening, I had the wedding rehearsal for Rachel Vasquez and Alfredo Rodriguez at OLIH. Fr. Steve had asked me to celebrate their marriage while he was in Italy.
Saturday, I was at the Christ Our Life conference helping with Reconciliation for a couple of hours and then came back for the wedding at OLIH. I was able to return for the closing Mass on Sunday afternoon. It was good to see lots of people I knew including St. Luke’s parishioners.
I again encourage you to sign up for the October 6, 9:30-11:30 am Site Planning Workshop for St. Luke’s parishioners and children. You can sign up on line at our website: hit the “Construction Zone” button.
Our St. Luke’s Feast Day Celebration and Dinner will be the following Sunday, October 14, 4-7:00 pm at OLIH multipurpose room. We need lots of volunteers to help make this all happen. See the signup sheet after Mass. You can ask your family and neighbors to come to the dinner and get advance tickets for them. This is a great time to work together and to enjoy our Patron Saint’s feast day.
Thanks to Gary, Pat and Sarah Olson who took pictures for our pictorial directory the last three weeks. We appreciate your work. Consider Sarah for your next event when you need pictures.
