Dear St. Luke’s Parishioners,
Fr. Steve was on vacation this last week. He went to San Diego and Phoenix. Unfortunately for him, it was warmer here on January 10th than where he was going. January has its warm ups and cool/cold downs.
On Monday, January 7, the Recruitment and Welcoming Team met. They looked at having a newcomers welcome wine and cheese after Saturday Mass. Newly registered parishioners will be invited and information about St. Luke’s will be shared. All parishioners will also be invited to get to know the families recently registered.
On Tuesday, January 8, I took the parish staff, Jenifer and Cindy, to Village Inn for Epiphany Breakfast. There is always good food there and good sharing. That afternoon, I went to the Annual Creighton Jesuit Community Dinner for the area priests. It was a wonderful dinner and afterward, we went to the Creighton/Drake basketball game. Creighton could not miss and Drake could not hit, especially in the 1st half. I was impressed by the huge fan following that Creighton has.
Wednesday meant that the Synchronization Committee, with representatives from the Parish Council, the Finance Council and the Strategic Planning Team met to look at the financial consequences of our Master Plan and the 1st Phase. We have lots of work to do in the next few months to be ready for the May 2013 Capital Campaign. We will be having our campaign the same time that the Diocesan Capital Campaign is being conducted. We hope to have a timeline schedule for the Master Plan/1st Phase and the fundraising needed very soon.
On Thursday, the Parish Pastoral Council met for their monthly meeting. Enthusiasm about the Welcoming Team and the Strategic Planning Team reports was very much in evidence. We are realizing that a good deal of our time and focus will be on the 1st Phase work that is right in front of us. Keep this process in your prayers.
Friday saw a meeting with a couple to talk about their upcoming marriage at St. Luke’s. It is wonderful to share in the joy of engagement rings and initial plans for marriage.
The celebration of the Baptism of the Lord saw us blessing water and being sprinkled by it. It reminds us of the gift of God’s life that came to us in our own baptisms. May we open our hearts to the Holy Spirit poured out on that wonderful day.
Also on Sunday, I enjoyed the Omelet Breakfast prepared by the Knights of Columbus at OLIH. I stopped by for a little while at the CEW team meeting and then came back to St. Anne’s for a Stewardship Committee meeting.
Last weekend and again this weekend, you are encouraged to sign up to take part in Eucharistic Adoration on Thursdays of Lent, 3:30 - 5:30 pm and 6:30 - 8:30 pm. Also during Lent, there will be several opportunities to take part in Lenten Small Groups. Sign-ups will also be available after Mass this weekend.
Enjoy the roller coaster January days!
