Father Larry's Letters

"Father Larry's Letters" are a weekly letter/journal about the many events occurring within and around the St. Luke's community.

Hopes for Sun, Holy Spirit, Campaign Success

Dear St. Luke’s Parishioners,

I am writing this letter the night before Mother’s Day knowing that I will be on my way home after the Sunday morning Mass. God has sent us the gift of sun and wind on Saturday and promises to keep the warm for several days. The farmers will be charging out to plant if the sun stays out. May they be safe as they do so.

On Monday, May 6, several priests had a chance to enjoy the wonderful sun on Legacy golf course in Norwalk. Our best ball group tied for 1st - of course there were only three groups and one group played their own ball. That evening, the Creative Gifts Seminar for our Capital Campaign was held at St. Anne’s for about 20 of our parishioners. Lots of good information was shared.

Tuesday, May 7, the Recruitment and Welcoming team met for their monthly meeting. Review of the new information packets for New Members was held and additional suggestions made. This team will help provide the refreshments for the May 11 open house at the St. Luke’s Rectory.

Wednesday evening, May 8, the Strategic Planning Team reviewed with our architects, the 8 RFPs for a general contractor firm to work with us on our 1st phase. The list was reduced to four who will be interviewed this Wednesday, May 15. Pray that we can select a firm that will best help the development of St. Luke’s facilities.

Thursday, May 9, I enjoyed the annual breakfast with the OLIH Regina Caeli Funeral Choir. It is nice to join in the good food to celebrate the music ministry that they provide for Masses of the Resurrection. That evening, the Parish Pastoral Council held its monthly meeting. Review of the progress of the Recruitment and Welcoming Team and the Knights of Columbus was held. Progress of the Strategic Planning team was shared. A subcommittee for the September 4-8 Pilgrimage was established. We may have our ground breaking for Phase One as the conclusion of those Pilgrimage days. More later.

On Friday, I was straightening out the Rectory for the House Blessing and Open House. It was a nice gathering of folks to see the Rectory ready for use. Thanks to several parish council members for installing the blinds in the main room before the open house.

This Sunday, May 12, I anticipate sharing Mother’s Day with my mother and my siblings. I join all of you in thanksgiving for the gift of life and love that they have shared with us.

Our Capital Campaign is moving right along. I encourage all of us to consider stretching ourselves more than we had planned in the gifts to our “Together We Build” campaign. All of us doing more will enable us to meet our goal and get the 1st Phase for St. Luke’s underway. Ask the Holy Spirit this Pentecost for the guidance and wisdom on how to decide what the Lord has in mind.

To all who are approaching Graduation or who have already done so, congratulations! May the Holy Spirit guide you and give you peace about your next steps in life. The plan God has for you is indeed good and filled with what is best. May you discover that plan.

May the birthday of the Church this Pentecost open our hearts to how the Spirit will empower us to set out on the mission of Jesus in our lives.
