 Talk to God

Prayer, which is conversation with God, is at the heart of worship and the heart of our relationship with God. That is why it is so important that we form the habit of daily prayer and that we avoid distractions during prayer. We know by experience that frequent good conversations build relationships. The same is true about prayer: frequent prayer in which we truly talk to God and listen to his voice as he speaks to our heart builds our relationship with Him.

Now just as there are various ways in which we communicate with others, there are also various ways in which we can pray. Lifting our hearts to God and thanking Him for a beautiful day, saying the Our Father, and reflecting on a passage from the Bible are a few of the ways in which we can pray. And although one may seem very different from another, they are the same in that they are meant to be a conversation between us and God in which we unite our hearts and our will to the heart and will of God. Below are some opportunities and resources to help you grow in your relationship with God.

Forming the habit of daily prayer

Looking to form the habit of daily prayer, but don’t know where to start? Start by picking a specific time that you will dedicate to prayer. It doesn’t have to be very much time. It could be just a couple of minutes. The important thing is that you stick to it. After you have formed the habit of talking to God daily you can increase the amount of time. Here is a simple method you can use to get started.

  • Acknowledge God’s presence: “Lord I know you are with me. Help me to pray.”, “Lord, thank you for this moment of prayer.”, Etc.

  • Talk to God: Tell Him about how your day is going/went, thank Him for the good things, ask His forgiveness for the bad things, and place it all in His hands.

  • Make a resolution: Based off of what you talked to God about, make a resolution to do something specific during the day that will help you grow in virtue and help you grow closer to God.
